The perfect blanket

The perfect blanket, which is exactly what?

After a long hard day, there is nothing more pleasant than sitting on the couch and wrapping yourself in a blanket. The perfect blanket is warm, it should also be breathable, soft and, above all, it should serve us for many years. When buying a new blanket or plaid, we should take into account not only its appearance, but also its properties. Blankets available on the market are most often made of:

– cotton

– wool

– polyester

So let's take a look at their properties

COTTON BLANKETS:

Cotton is a great material for making blankets. It remains soft even after long use and repeated washing. Thanks to its heat storage properties, it is a great insulator, providing warmth on cold days without feeling overheated or sweating. It is also perfect in the summer thanks to the fact that it is breathable. It is characterized by high hygroscopicity (absorbs moisture very well without the feeling of wet material). It rarely sensitizes, does not irritate the skin, therefore it is recommended for children and allergy sufferers. It doesn't stretch. Cotton blankets and plaids can be washed in the washing machine without losing their appearance, which makes them very easy to use.

WOOL BLANKETS:

Good quality wool rugs will warm us on cold days, providing excellent thermal insulation. Wool options are also highly hygroscopic, making them cozy without feeling overheated. Wool relieves neuralgia and joint pain. It does not crease and is resistant to dirt, but it can peel. If we choose a good quality blanket, it will be soft and delicate without scratching. Although wool variants are naturally antibacterial, they require more effort from us to keep clean - it is best to dry clean them or hand wash them.

Polyester blankets:

Polyester blankets will be the cheapest choice. Unfortunately, they are made of synthetic fibers - polyester is a type of plastic that is made from petroleum and other chemicals. Synthetic materials do not have the properties of natural ones. Polyester blankets, although they are pleasant to the touch and seem warm, will not provide us with such comfort as cotton or wool. Very quickly we will start to sweat and overheat under them, they will not provide us with proper thermoregulation. Polyester does not let air through as well as wool or cotton. While fleece versions can be made from recycled products, they are the least natural option. At the end of use, due to the material used, they are not biodegradable and can contribute to an increase in the amount of harmful microplastics found in oceans, rivers and lakes.

Blankets can easily decorate a bedroom or living room, they are a universal element of interior design. A beautiful, good quality blanket should be in every home. Perfect as a bedspread or sofa cover. We can cover an already damaged sofa with it, and even hang it like a picture on the wall. Blankets and rugs should provide us with a sense of comfort. It is important that the option we choose is good for our health and the environment.
